If I were to give any advice, it would be to sit back and take it all in. Every single bride, no matter if it is a small or large wedding, we pour every bit of ourselves into every detail and before we know it the night is over. When I was at my wedding, I took some time while every one was dancing and having a good time to just sit back and live in the moment. No phones were around, there were no worries, no stresses. Just everyone genuinely having fun and that to me was the reward, besides now getting to spend the rest of my life with my best friend of course. All my husband and I’s work paid off and then some.

We as brides put so much thought and detail into every wedding and the most popular thing I hear, even for myself, was that it goes too fast. Don’t sweat the small stuff, if something goes wrong that’s a small detail, don’t sweat it. Most times all of your guests won’t even realize it. It’s almost a surreal feeling really going through the whole night, but every bit of it is worth it.

Our wedding theme was Halloween, as I am a HUGE fan of the holiday and all it has to offer. Enligt min åsikt, it’s the most carefree holiday of the year. We always liked the darker end of things and love things that don’t necessarily follow the status quo. I remember when booking our venue, I had told the coordinator absolutely nothing will be white, no table cloths, no small details, absolutely nothing was to be white. Everything had to be black, silver-, or orange. Unconventional was basically my middle name at that point – haha. The only thing I wanted semi-white was my dress, which wound up being silver.

Nick and I met when I was still in high school in 2011, I was 17 and he was 18. He was graduated from a different high school in the area, and I was a senior in a neighboring town. We had met through mutual friends once, and started talking on Facebook. I worked at a local ice cream parlor, and I jokingly said to him “I’m working tonight! You should come get some ice cream!” and he said “sure!". I kind of had that “wait are you serious?” moment because I was being my sarcastic snarky self and wasn’t actually expecting him to come. When he finally came in, I was so nervous!

From then on, he came in every night I was working and would walk me to my car after my shift. A week or two went by of this, and he asked me to the movies where we had our first date. Three years after that, on Halloween of 2014 he had taken me to a place called Deep Cut Gardens, which is a huge botanical garden that you can walk through and it ends in a huge gazebo where he wound up proposing.

We were rather young, på 20 & 21 years old, but we always knew we wanted to be together. We waited a long time, about seven or so years to finally plan and get married, but life happens while you’re making other plans. Things change at a rapid pace it seems these days, and finally in 2019 we had set a date to be married Halloween of 2021. It couldn’t have been more perfect, and we don’t regret waiting at all, we had time to think about what we wanted and how we wanted to plan everything.

The most memorable part of our wedding was the first look for the both of us. There was so much anticipation, between him never seeing my dress (or me in it) to me never really seeing him in his tux. It really made everything come to fruition and made both of us realize that this is real, this is happening we’re getting married! After two years of planning and hard work it had finally all boiled down to this moment, when we finally saw each other and were able to just relax and enjoy the rest of the day.

I heard about Cocomelody in 2018 when my sister had gotten engaged. She had a Christmas wedding, and was looking for unconventional tärnklänningar (noticing a trend here?-haha). At the time, she had decided to go in a different direction, but I was hooked. I knew from the get go, I was going to be a Cocomelody bride. I 2020, I had seen that their pop up shop was coming to NYC and I just had to go! I made an appointment for the end of May, which unfortunately go cancelled due to COVID-19 but then rescheduled to September of 2020 and I was able to find the absolute perfect dress with the customization I was looking for.

The customization.

I’m very much so an “against the grain person”. I love detail, I love things that are unique and not necessarily seen all the time. As my mom would say, “I march to the beat of my own drum”. So I absolutely loved the fact that I could do a different color in my dress besides white that a normal boutique couldn’t give me. It should be normalized that not every bride wants to wear white. No hate at all if you do, but the hardest part about our wedding, was trying to find things that weren’t light colored or white. I always am on the darker end of the color palette because that’s what appeals to me and I’m sure many other brides. I love that Cocomelody is inclusive in that sense, and the customization is so easy to do.

The service was absolutely amazing. The consultant that helped us at the NYC pop up was so nice and even hyped me up! I had gone to another shop local to me and had a bad experience so going to Cocomelody in NYC was refreshing and she helped me find my drömklänning!
